CURETTE, SUCTION, UTERINE, Sterile
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers suction curettes designed for vacuum aspiration of uterine contents.
Salient characteristics:
General. Shall be sterile, disposable, semi-grid curved suction curettes, 8, 10, or 12 mm outer diameter, specifically designed for vacuum aspiration of uterine contents. The curettes shall have thin walls to minimize cervical dilation.
The curettes shall have a proximal end with a male taper which allows secure attachments onto the handle of the disposable tubing collection set. The tubing collection set controls the amount of vacuum delivered to the curettes and will allow the curettes to be rotated.
Material. The curettes shall be made of clear, semi-rigid high quality plastic. The material shall be free from pyrogenicity when tested according to applicable portions of the latest edition of USP. The material shall be non-toxic when tested according to applicable portions of the latest edition of USP for Class IV plastics. The lead content shall not exceed 5 parts per million (ppm).
Characteristics. The curettes shall have an overall length of 7.5 inches and have a rounded tip with a smooth, gentle curve neat the middle and an insertion depth marking band at 3.9 to 4.7 inches from the distal end. The curettes shall be in accordance with Figure 1.
Sterility. The curettes shall be sterile when tested in accordance with the applicable portions of the USP. The sterility assurance level shall be 0.0001 as a minimum.
