COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
GUIDE, WIRE STRUT (V SHAPE, HOUSE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers one size of wire strut guide of the House design suitable for use during surgical procedures in the middle ear.
Salient characteristics:
Style and design. The guide shall be in accordance with figure 1. The handle of the guide shall be grooved or cross-hatched.
Markings. The instrument shall bear the manufacturer’s name or registered trademark and the work “stainless”. Instruments of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
Material. The guide shall be manufactured from Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resisting steel, in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard F899.
Passivation. The guide shall be properly passivated.
Hardness. The guide shall have a Rockwell hardness of HRC 47-53 and shall be tested for hardness in accordance with ASTM Standard E18 or Standards E92 and E140.
Corrosion resistance. Finished guides shall show no evidence of corrosion when tested in accordance with the resistance to copper sulfate and resistance to boil tests of Federal Specification GG-I-526.
Finish. The finish shall be satin or matte.
Workmanship. The item shall be processed in such a manner as to be uniform in quality and free from defects that will affect life, serviceability, or appearance.
