CONNECTOR, CANNULA, HEMODIALYSIS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers one size of sterile, disposable connectors suitable for the connection of the extracutaneous end of two hemodialysis cannulae.
Salient characteristics:
Style and design. The connector shall be a tube 38 mm ± 2 mm in length. The tube shall have an inside diameter of 2.8 mm ± 0.2 mm and outside diameter or 3.4 mm ± 0.2 mm. The finish of the connector shall be smooth and non-etched. The connector shall be provided with an obturator. The obturator shall fit the connector securely and shall be color-coded green. The obturator shaft shall be 31 to 36 mm in length.
Material. The connector shall be manufactured from polytetrafluoroethylene. The obturator shall be manufactured from a rigid plastic.
Sterility. The connector and obturator shall be sterile when tested in accordance with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
Toxicity. The connector shall meet the requirements of the USP for Class IV plastics.
Workmanships. The item shall be processed in such a manner as to be uniform in quality and free from defects that will affect life, serviceability, or appearance.
Product Quality Level.
Visual and dimensional examination. Shall be examined to verify that design, construction and workmanship are in accordance with applicable requirements.
