CANNULA, HEMODIALYSIS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers one size and type of disposable silicone rubber cannula suitable for use in hemodialysis procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The cannula shall consist of a silicone rubber tube open at each end. The cannula shall be 300 mm ± 10 mm in length. The cannula shall have an outside diameter of 4.9 ± 0.3 mm, and shall have an inside diameter of 2.6 mm ± 0.3 mm. The lumen of the cannula shall be mirror smooth to reduce clot formation or fibrin adherence. The cannula shall be capable of forming a 180o bend of 20 mm radius of curvature without collapsing or kinking. The cannula shall be packaged in a peel open type package.
Sterility. The cannula shall be sterile when tested in accordance with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
Pyrogenicity. The cannula shall be free from pyrogens when tested in accordance with the USP.
Toxicity. The cannula shall meet the requirements of the USP for Class IV plastics.
Workmanship. The item shall be manufactured in such a manner as to be uniform in quality and free from defects that will affect life, serviceability, or appearance. The cannula shall be free from debris, foreign matter, oil and liquid residue.

Product Quality Level.
Visual and dimensional examination. Shall be examined to verify that design, construction and workmanship are in accordance with applicable requirements.
