COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TUBE, COLON, SURGICAL (Disposable)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-T-36264A.
This commercial item description covers a colon tube suitable for irrigation of the human colon.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The colon tube shall be fabricated from flexible polyvinyl chloride suitable for the intended purpose.
Toxicity. The colon tube shall be non-toxic when tested as specified in American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F749, Method B.
Pyrogenicity. The colon tube shall be non-pyrogenic when tested as specified in the latest edition of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
Style and design. Style and design of the colon tube shall conform to Figure 1 (colon tube with fitted connector). As an alternate, colon tube style and design may conform to Figure 2 (colon tube with integral connector). The proximal connector (integral or fitted) shall be suitable for effecting a connection between the tube and any size 28 French tube. The fitted connector shall not separate from the colon tube when subjected to a 15 lb. tensile load. The colon tube shall be size28 French. All edges on the tube and connector shall be suitably dulled or rounded.
Sterility. The colon tube, if supplied sterile, shall pass the sterility test specified in the latest edition of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
