PROSE, GENERAL OPERATING (Mall)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a general operating probe of the Mall design suitable for surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Style and design. The probe shall have a smooth blunt tip suitable for surgical exploratory procedures. The probe shall be of the style and dimensions shown in Figure 1.
Material. The probe shall be manufactured from Class IV corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. After proper hardening, Rockwell hardness shall be C40 minimum when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or ASTM E92 and E140.
Corrosion resistance. After proper passivation, the probe shall show no evidence of corrosion when subjected to the copper sulfate test and boil test specified in GG-I-526.
Finish. The probe shall have a mirror or satin finish.
Identification markings. The probe shall bear the manufacturer’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless”. Foreign manufactured probes shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
Workmanship. The probe shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
PRODUCT QUALITY LEVEL
Visual and dimensional examination. Shall be examined to verify that design, construction and workmanship are in accordance with applicable requirements.
