RECOVERY PACK, BLOOD CELL COLLECTION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a sterile, pyrogen free quadruple red blood cell recovery pack for use with a Blood Cell Washer and a Wash Bowl and Waste Bag Set.
Salient characteristics.
General. Shall be a sterile, pyrogen free, quadruple red blood cell recovery pack for use with a Blood Cell Washer and a Wash Bowl and Waste Bag Set.
Material. The recovery pack shall consist of four PVC plastic 600 milliliter bags, or as an alternate, two 600 milliliter and two 350-400 milliliter PVC plastic bags, connected by various length of PVC tubing, a standard plastic spike and polypropylene control clamps.
Characteristics. The recovery pack system shall consist of the spike connected by six inches of tubing to a plastic “Y” fitting connecting to two 34-inch lengths of tubing, each one attached to a 600 ml bag (primary).
Each primary bag shall be connected to a blood bag (transfer) by eight inches of tubing. Each leg, except the spike to “Y” fitting, shall contain a control clamp. ‘The entire system shall be closed and tamperproof. All tubing shall have an outer diameter of .158 ± .003 inches with a wall thickness of .020 ~ .001 inches.
The two primary bags shall be used to store two previously frozen and washed units of red blood cells suspended in approximately 250 ml of sodium chloride-glucose solution. The two transfer bags shall be used to receive 250 ml or more of the sodium chloride-glucose solution to be discarded prior to transfusion.
