COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CATHETER AND CONNECTOR, SUCTION, TRACHEAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
The commercial item description covers a various sized tracheal suction and catheters and connectors.
Salient Characteristics.
The catheter and connector shall be a sterile, disposable unit suitable for suction procedure through tracheal airways.
Catheter. The catheter shall be transparent and fabricated of flexible polyvinylchloride in accordance with the USP for Class II plastic. The proximal end of the catheter shall be permanently attached to the connector. The distal end shall have a whistle tip and at least two oval-shaped side eyes. The catheter shall have a minimum tensile strength of 1500 psig and minimum elongation of 200 percent and a Shore A Durometer hardness of 70 to 85.
Connector. The connector shall be fabricated of a rigid plastic in accordance with the USP for Class II plastics. The connector shall be tapered for airtight connection to flexible tubing of 1/4 inch inside diameter. At least four equally spaced rings shall circumscribe the tapered end of the connector for security of attachment to the tubing. The connector shall have a thumb port which opens into the lumen to allow manual control of suction pressure. The cross-sectional area of the port opening shall be at least 1.5 times that of the catheter lumen.
