COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HOOK, BONE, 7-1/4 INCH
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a bone hook suitable for pulling and holding bone fragments in place orthopedic surgery.
Salient characteristics:
The shaft of the bone hook shall have a diameter of 3/16 ± 1/64 inch from outer edge of shaft to furthermost end of hook tip. Hook shall have a curved tip with a sharp tapered point.
The shaft of the bone hook shall be permanently secured to the handle at the handles centerpoint. The bone hook shall have a 900 angle between the shaft and the handle. Handle length shall be 4 ± 1/64 inches. Diameter of handle shall be 1/2 ± 1/64 inch.
The bone hook shall have an overall length of 7-1/4 ± 1/4 Inches.
The bone hook shall be fabricated of a suitable austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899. The Rockwell hardness of the bone hook shall be HRB 82-85. The bone hook shall have no surface depressions, pits, or exhibit porosity. The bone hook shall have a smooth, satin finish. The bone hook shall be properly passivated and stress relieved.
The bone hooks shall no evidence of corrosion when subjected to the boil test specified in Federal Specification GG-I-526.
