COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HUMIDIFIER, INHALATION THERAPY APPARATUS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a single-patient-use bubble humidifier for use in the administration of inhalation therapy.
Salient characteristics:
The humidifier shall be disposable for single patient use, bubble type, and intended for use with oxygen. It shall consist of, at least, a liquid reservoir/jar, humidifier head/cap, and oxygen/gas diffuser.
Allowed materials are plastic type materials, corrosion resistant metal, and metal treated for corrosion resistance. All materials shall be suitable for intended use. The unit shall be capable of withstanding storage in uncontrolled environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) for extended periods of time (5 years).
The reservoir shall have an opening capacity of 400 ml. Markings on the reservoir shall conform with ANSI 279.9. The reservoir shall permit visual observation of liquid level.
The humidifier head shall include a D.I.S.S. gas inlet conforming to CGA 1240 for oxygen, a 2 psi relief valve conforming to ANSI 279.9, and a combination 3/16-1/4 inch tubing connector as the outlet. The head shall be capable of being removed/attached easily for purpose of refilling. The 2 psi relief valve shall provide an audible noise to warn if the tubing circuit becomes occluded. This relief valve shall not activate when the outlet tubing circuitry is not obstructed and 10 LPM oxygen/gas is flowing.
