COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CANISTER ASSEMBLY, SUCTION, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a suction canister assembly for collecting fluids during surgery.
Salient characteristics:
The suction canister assembly shall consist of a 1500 ml disposable plastic inner canister which shall fit into a compatible autoclavable outer canister and a wall bracket specifically designed to hold the outer canister. One reusable outer container with lid and one compatible wall bracket shall be provided with 100 inner canisters. The canister assembly shall meet the requirements of ASTM F960 portions pertaining to suction collection vessel (not pleural and mediastinal drainage), tubing, and connectors as applicable.
The outer canister shall be calibrated with markings of at least 25ml to the 100 ml level, every 50 ml to the 300 ml level, and every 100 ml thereafter.
Both the inner and outer canister walls shall be clear for high visibility of aspirated contents. The inner canisters shall be disposable through incineration.
The inner canisters shall be of a shape allowing nesting for reduction of storage space. As an alternate, inner canisters shall be collapsible to allow for reduction of storage area.
