RESUSCITATOR, CARDIOPULMONARY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a portable resuscitator suitable for emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a variety of locations and during patient transport.
Salient characteristics:
The synchronized cardiopulmonary resuscitator shall be a portable, oxygen powered, automatic unit. The resuscitator shall supply intermittent time cycled, positive pressure ventilation and external cardiac compression via the patient’s sternum.
Subassemblies.
The resuscitator shall consist of two main parts: a base/ventilator assembly, and a column/compression arm assembly.
The base/ventilator assembly shall consist of a master valve, a compression on-off valve, a force control knob, a ventilation on-off valve, a ventilation pressure control knob, an applied chest force knob, and a ventilation pressure gauge.
The column/compression arm assembly shall contain a piston which depresses the sternum during resuscitation. The compression arm shall be adjustable to accommodate various sizes. The column arm and the piston arm shall be color coded for accurate volume sternal compression.
Power source.
The resuscitator shall operate from a regulated compressed oxygen source of 40 to 85 psi (2.81 to 6.0 Kg/cm2).
