COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADAPTER, CATHETER-TO-LUER SYRINGE, TUOHY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a Tuohy-design catheter-to-Luer syringe adapter.
Salient characteristics:
Style and design. Shall be a Tuohy-design catheter-to-Luer syringe adapter conforming to Figure 1. The adapter shall consist of an adapter body, collar, washer, and nut. Order of assembly shall be as indicated in Figure 1. The adapter body shall contain a female
Luer-lock conforming to ANSI/HIMA MD70.1.
Dimensions. The adapter shall pass the test listed in ANSI/HIMA MD70.1.
Performance. The adapter shall effect a leak-tight connection between a ureteral catheter, 1 Fr to 8 Fr size, and a Luer-Lock syringe. The adapter shall pass the test specified in ANSI\HIMA MD70.1. Prior to testing, a suitable catheter shall be inserted into the adapter nut, 6ecured, and closed off with a suitable pinch-clamp. The catheter shall not be occluded.
Material. Except for the washer, all adapter components shall be fabricated from properly tempered, Type 110, 122, 260, 270, or 360 brass conforming to GG-I-52. The washer shall be made from a suitable rubber.
Corrosion-resistance. Except for the washer, all adapter components shall pass the boil test specified in GG-I-526. Each component shall be tested separately.
Finish. Except for the washer, all adapter components shall be nickel plated.
