COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BLOOD SAMPLE, COLLECTING SET
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a disposable blood sample collecting set to be used in “prep” for, obtaining and storage of arterial blood samples.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a disposable arterial blood sampling kit contained in a snap-open polyethylene bag consisting of the following:
a. One 5 ml polypropylene syringe with sufficient sodium heparin United States pharmacopeia (USP) to anticoagulate 5 ml of whole blood. The plunger shall have positive stops for both compressed and filled positions with a rubber tip for sealing. A polypropylene fitting shall be provided to seal the syringe tip luer fitting.
b. One sterile 22 gauge by 1 inch clear or color coded plastic hubbed needle with a short bevel. The needle cannula shall be fabricated from Class 3, Type 304 corrosion-resisting steel. The hub shall be fabricated of polypropylene. The needle shall be contained in a polypropylene container to protect the point and maintain sterility.
