SYRINGE, FLUID DISPENSING, 10 ML (Pharmaceutical)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a spring loaded, 10 ml fluid dispensing syringe designed for dispensing of intravenous additives and unit dose fluids in the pharmacy.
Salient characteristics.
General. Shall be a sterile, disposable non-pyrogenic, spring loaded 10 ml syringe designed to supply a preset amount of fluid.
Material. The plastic tubing shall be clear, colorless, transparent, flexible polyvinyl chloride. The syringe shall be fabricated from rubber. The spike, clamp, valve, Luer adapters and end protectors shall be made of a suitable rigid plastic. The plastic components coming in contact with the fluid shall meet the requirements of the Pharmacopeia of the United States for Class IV plastics (USP). Those rubber and plastic components coming in contact with the fluid and end protectors shall contain more than 5 parts per million (ppm) total lead, barium and cadmium when tested in accordance with the physico-chemical tests in USP.
Characteristics. The fluid dispensing syringe shall be a spring loaded 10 ml syringe with subgraduations every 1/5 ml. Each whole number graduation shall be numbered and be darker and longer than the subgraduations. The scale shall legible and readable with the syringe held in the vertical position. The syringe shall have a handle. The syringe shall have a Luer lock tip.
