COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STOPCOCK, ARTERIAL-VENOUS PRESSURE MONITORING (ONE-WAY)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a sterile disposable plastic stopcock suitable for use in arterial and venous pressure monitoring.
Salient characteristics:
Material. Stopcocks shall be manufactured from a rigid plastic material.
Style and design. The stopcock shall have two ports located 180 degrees apart. One port shall be a male Luer connector and the other shall be a female Luer lock connector. The Luer lock connectors shall meet the dimensional requirements of American National Standards Institute Health Industry Manufacturer’s Association (ANSI/HIMA) Standard MD70.1. The handle of the rotating member of the stopcock shall be an outwardly projecting arm. The arm shall be parallel to the fluid path when the stopcock is in the open position, and shall be perpendicular to the fluid path when the stopcock is closed.
Sterility and freedom from pyrogens. The stopcock shall be tested for sterility in accordance with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Freedom from pyrogens shall be tested in accordance with the USP Pyrogen Test or Bacterial Endotoxins Test.
Safety and heavy metals. Material used in the manufacture of the stopcock shall meet the requirements of the USP for Class II plastics. In addition, the materials shall contain less than 5 parts per million of heavy metals when tested in accordance with the USP.
Workmanship. The item shall be processed in such a manner as to be uniform in quality and free from defects that will affect life, serviceability, or appearance.
