COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, RECTAL (Hill-Ferguson)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a retractor of the Hill-Ferguson type, suitable for general surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The retractor shall be in accordance with the applicable requirements of Federal Specification GG-I-526.
Style and design. The retractor shall conform to Figure 1 for style and design. The handle shall have serrations to facilitate grasping. The handle can be solid or hollow. The retractor blade width shall be 3/4 inch and 2-1/2 inches in depth. The retractor may be fabricated from one continuous piece or it may be composed of one or more pieces welded together.
Hardness. The retractor shall be fabricated entirely from class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899. The retractor shall have a minimum Rockwell Hardness of C-45 to C-50.
Finish. The finish shall be entirely mirror, satin or class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F 899. The finish shall exhibit a uniform non-directional surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. The retractor shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. When tested as specified in Federal Specification GG-I-526, the retractor shall show no signs of corrosion or copper plating.
