COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, TISSUE (Hibbs)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a Hibbs tissue retractor, suitable for use in orthopedic or neurosurgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The retractor shall be a Hibbs style deep, soft tissue retractor having a 90° angled blade and a handle. The blade tip shall have three tapered, inward-curved, non-cutting teeth and a curved proximal handle for hand-grip feasibility.
Material. The retractor shall be fabricated entirely from Class 3 austenitic corrosion-resisting steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The retractor shall have a Rockwell Hardness of B Scale (HRB) 90, minimum. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or ASTM Designations E92 and E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The retractor shall be in accordance with Figure 1 for style, design and dimensions.
Passivation. The retractor shall be properly passivated.
Finish. The finish of the retractor shall be entirely mirror, satin or matte.
Resistance to corrosion. The retractor shall show no evidence of corrosion when tested in accordance to ASTM Designation F1089.
