BAND, CIRCLING (SILICONE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers one type of ophthalmic circling band.
Salient characteristics:
General. Shall be an ophthalmic circling band. Shall be suitable for use in retinal re-attachment surgery by facilitating the sclera buckling procedure. The circling band shall comply with the requirements listed below.
Configuration. The circling band shall be a long, rectangular strip of the material specified herein. All corners and edges shall be rounded. Circling ban dimensions shall be as follows: 125 ± .5 mm length, 2.5 ± .05 mm width, 0.6 ± .05 mm thickness.
Materials. The circling band shall be fabricated from RTV or thermally-cured silicone elastomer. This material shall comply with the physical, mechanical, biological, and chemical properties listed in Table I. Samples of the material shall be subjected to the test specified for each property.
