NEEDLE, HYPODERMIC, (Blood collecting, Multiple Sample)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a sterile multiple-sample, thin-wall, double-pointed blood collecting needle with shut0off sleeve.
Salient characteristics:
Materials. The cannulae shall be made of Type 304 stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899, Class 3 requirements. The exterior of the cannula shall be smooth and have on it an inert, non-toxic silicone compound suitable for the intended medical usage. The rubber shut-off sleeve shall be of the best quality and suitable for injection and resealing after needle withdrawal. The shut-off sleeve shall be securely attached to the hub. The hub shall be made of polypropylene or other suitable plastic and be capable of being tightly threaded into a tube holder without chipping.
Construction. Shall be a sterile, hypodermic, multiple-sample blood-collecting needle, packaged in an individual, sealed sterile package which shall maintain the sterility of the contents and be so designed as to permit ready dispensing of the needle by aseptic technique. The needle shall comply with the dimensions shown in Tables I and II below. Note: All dimensions are in inches and tolerances are ± 10 % unless otherwise indicated.
