HANDLE, ELECTRODE, ELECTROSURGERY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers an individually packaged, reusable pencil type electrode handle with built in cut-coagulation control switch suitable for performing electrosurgical procedures.
Salient characteristics.
The reusable pencil type electrode handle shall be compatible for use with standard 3/32 inch (2.38 mm) removable electrodes during electrosurgical procedures. The chuck in the handle shall hold the electrodes firmly in place. Each handle shall be individually packaged.
The handle shall be of waterproof sealed construction to protect both operator and patient from potential current leakage or accidental generator activation due to fluid entry.
The handle shall be easy to grip and non-slip with no burrs or sharp edges to puncture surgical gloves.
The handle shall be capable of selecting either cut or coagulation mode via a tactile response switch.
The handle shall have a permanently attached flexible, low current leakage electrical cord approximately 10 feet (3 meters) in length.
The handle shall withstand autoclaving and ethylene oxide sterilization for a minimum of twenty uses.
The handle shall be compatible with most commercially available electrosurgical units.
