SUPPORT, CERVICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers requirements for a medium size cervical collar, designed to protect and stabilize the neck portion of the spinal column.
Salient characteristics:
The cervical support shall be a medium size collar, 20-1/2 inches (52.07cm.) long and 4 inches (10.16cm.) wide, fabricated from polyurethane soft foam filler with a stockinette cover.
The support shall provide adequate protection and stabilization of the neck portion of the spinal column.
Each cervical support shall have a hook and pile side closure designed to permit application with minimal amount of movement of the patient’s head. There shall also be a soft section or molded depression in the center of the support to reduce pressure on the thyroid cartilage.
The collar shall be contoured high on both ends and shallow in the center to prevent lateral movement of the head and to provide support under the chin.
Workmanship. The cervical support shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One cervical support, as specified, constitutes one unit.
