APPLICATOR, DISPOSABLE, (Wood or Plastic, Cotton or Polyester Tipped End)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a sterilized or sterilizable fiber tipped wooden or plastic applicator, for use in the application of medicaments or biological cultures.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a cotton or polyester tipped applicator for use in the application of medicaments in a dispensary or biological cultures in a laboratory.
Shall be supplied in a sterilized or a sterilizable condition.
Shall be supplied with a wooden or plastic applicator stick having nominal dimensions (inches) of 1/12 diameter by 6 length, with commercial tolerances acceptable. The applicator stick shall be symmetrical throughout its length and its ends shall be cut square and smooth.
Shall have fibers affixed to one end of the applicator stick by use of a nontoxic adhesive that shall inhibit mold growth, and is capable of withstanding sterilization without affecting the intended use of the tipped applicator.
Shall have fibers for applicator stick fabricated of either:
a. Purified cotton conforming to requirements of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
b. 100% polyester fiber.
c. A polyester/cotton blend.
