COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADAPTER, HYPODERMIC NEEDLE-TO-TUBING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers one type of hypodermic needle-to-tubing adapter.
Salient characteristics:
Style and design. Style and design of the adapter shall conform to Figure 1. The adapter shall contain a hose-end, a knurled finger grip, and a male Luer Slip that conform to ANSI/HIMA MD70.1.
Dimensions. The adapter shall pass the test listed in ANSI/HIMA MD70.1.
Performance. The adapter shall effect a leak-tight connection between 1/8 inch I.D. rubber tubing and a hypodermic needle that has a female Luer-Slip hub. When tubing is connected, the tubing-to-adapter connection shall not separate under a 2 lb. tensile load. The adapter shall pass the leak test specified in ANSI/HIMA MD70.1. Prior to testing, rubber tubing shall be secured to the adapter’s hose-end and closed with a suitable pinch-clamp.
Materials. The adapter shall be fabricated from properly tempered Type 260, 270, or 360 brass conforming to GG-I-526.
Finish. The adapter shall be nickel plated or chromium-over-nickel plated. The plated adapter shall have a smooth, uniform finish.
Corrosion-resistance. The adapter shall pass the boil and salt-spray tests specified in GG-I-526. For the salt spray tests specified in GG-I-526. For the salt spray test, the exterior of the adapter shall be the significant surface.
