COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, CHEEK, LIGHT ANGLE (Johnson)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a cheek retractor of the Johnson design suitable for use during nasal surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The overall length of the retractor shall be 170 mm with a 35 mm by 14 mm wide blade. The tip shall be dull and rounded.
Material. The blade and shank material shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899. The handle material shall be Class 3 austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The retractor blade and shank shall have a finished Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) 40 to 47. The retractor handle shall have a Rockwell B Scale (HRB) 75 to 85. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or ASTM Designations E92 and E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The retractor shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24563 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The retractor finish shall be satin or matte.
Resistance to corrosion. The retractor shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
