CATHETER, URETHRAL (Rubber, Whistle Tip)

This commercial item description covers a whistle tip, rubber urethral catheter suitable for urological procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The catheter shall be a continuous irrigating, hemostatic, indwelling urological catheter.
Material. The catheter shall be fabricated of a medical grade latex with polytetrafluoroethylene coated interior and exterior surfaces.
Style, design and dimensions. The catheter diameter shall be 20 (± 1) French or 24 (± 1) French, as specified, and shall have a 30 ml balloon and whistle tip. The catheter shall have three separate lumens for drainage, balloon inflation, and irrigation of the urinary tract. The inflation and irrigation lumens shall have female Luer adapters in accordance with ANSI/HIMA MD70.1.
Sterility. The catheter shall be sterile in accordance with the USP.
Leakage. The balloon of the catheter shall be tested for leakage by fully inflating and observing for leakage over a 24 hour period.
Inflation/deflation reliability. The balloon of the catheter shall be tested for inflation/deflation reliability by fully inflating and fully deflating the balloon for ten repetitions.
