COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, TISSUE (Cushing, Straight)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a straight, Cushing tissue forceps suitable for use in general surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be straight tissue forceps of the Cushing style. The forceps shall have cross-serrated jaws and 1 X 2 interdigitating teeth at the distal tip. The handles of the forceps shall be serrated. The definitions of the terms and components used in this specification are in accordance with ASTM Designation F921.
Material. The material of the forceps shall be Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) 40 to 47. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or ASTM Designations E92 and E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The style, design and dimensions of the forceps shall be in accordance to Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23415.
Passivation. The forceps shall be properly passivated.
Finish. The finish of the forceps shall be mirror, satin, or matte.
Resistance to corrosion. The forceps shall show no signs of corrosion when tested in accordance to ASTM Designation F1089.
