COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ELEVATOR, PERIOSTEAL (Matson)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a periosteal elevator of the Matson design, 8-3/4 inches long, used for lifting the periosteum during surgical operative procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The material shall be fabricated from Class 4 stainless steel in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Designation F899.
Hardness. The elevator shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of 45 to 50. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or ASTM Designations E92 and E140.
Style, design and dimension. The elevator shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20311 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The finish of the elevator shall be mirror, satin or matte. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform non-directional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surfaces with fine abrasives under pressure.
Corrosion resistance. The elevator shall show no signs of corrosion when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
Identification markings. Elevator shall bear the contractor’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless”. Elevators of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
