HUMIDIFIER, HYGROSCOPIC
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a disposable hygroscopic humidifier suitable for maintaining neat of and humidification of inspiratory gases during intensive care respiratory therapy or administration of anesthesia.
Salient characteristics:
The hydroscopic humidifier shall be a disposable, sterile respiratory therapy or anesthesia device suitable for maintaining heat of and humidification of inspiratory gases.
The humidifier shall consist basically of a cellulose sponge around a synthetic felt material designed to store heat and moisture before transferring it to the inspiratory gases.
The humidifier shall gave a 15 mm internal diameter cone connector on the patient side and a 22 mm internal diameter cone connector on the equipment side. The humidifier may have a flexible tube on the patient side. All connectors shall meet ISO standards. The humidifier shall be bacteriostatic to reduce the risk of air-born infection.
The humidifier shall be packaged individually so as to maintain sterility until opened or damaged.
Packaging and labeling shall meet the requirements of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and shall be that usually furnished by the supplier as commercial practice. Addition to these labels shall be limited to application of the following to the unit of issue (strip labeling is acceptable.
a. National stock number (NSN)
b. Date of manufacture or expiration date (immediate container).
c. Date (month and year, i.e., 7/87) of packaging.
d. Bar code (when applicable).
