COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SUPPORT, CERVICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers the requirements for a small, polyurethane foam cervical support with stockinette cover and hook-and-pile side fastener.
Salient characteristics:
The cervical support shall be size small, 15-1/2 to 18 inches long, 3 inches wide, adequate for protecting and stabilizing the neck portion of the spinal column.
The support shall be made of soft or medium density polyurethane foam material with a stockinette covering. The support shall have a hook and pile side closure design which will permit application with only minimal movement of the patient’s head.
The support shall have a soft section or molded depression in the center to reduce pressure on the thyroid cartilage. The support shall be contoured high on both ends and shallow in the center to prevent lateral movement of the head and to provide support under the chin.
The pile strap of the hook and pile tape fastener used for application of the cervical support, shall withstand a minimum pull of twenty-five (25) pounds, before detachment from support.
Workmanship. The cervical support shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One cervical support, as specified, constitutes one unit.
