DILATOR – CATHETER (Walther, Female)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a Walther female dilator-catheter for use in female urological procedures.
Salient characteristics.
Style and Design. The dilator-catheter shall have an overall length of 5-3/8 ± 1/8 inches with a straight length of 4 ± 1/8 inches. There shall be one lateral eye with the center of the eye being 9/16 ± 1/16 inch from the distal end. The distal end of the dilator-catheter shall be curved at 10 ± 3 degrees. The distal end shall have a rounded tapered tip. The eye shall have the same cross-sectional area as the inside diameter of the straight section of the dilator-catheter. At the proximal end, the dilator-catheter shall have a connector designed to attach to tubing, the dilator-catheter shall be of a diameter size in accordance with the following:
Size 1 – 12 French
Size 2 – 14 French
Size 3 – 16 French
Size 4 – 18 French
Size 5 – 20 French
Size 6 – 22 French
Material. The dilator-catheter shall be fabricated from Class 3 austenitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899. As an alternate, the dilator-catheter shall be fabricated from austenitic corrosion-resistant steel having a chromium content of 17 to 20 percent.
Hardness. The dilator-catheter shall have a Rockwell hardness of B75 minimum. Hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E18, or ASTM E92 and E140.
