COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISSECTORS, GENERAL SURGICAL (Curved, Penfield)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a curved dissector of the Penfield design used in general surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The material of the dissectors shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The dissectors shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 47 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Style, design and dimensions.
Style 1. Shall be double-ended and 7 inches long. One end shall be broad and curved, the other end a sharp, round spoon.
Style 2. Shall be double-ended and 7-3/4 inches long. One end shall be a wax packer, the other end a sharp, round spoon.
Style 3. Shall be double-ended and 7-3/4 inches long. One end shall be a wax packer, the other end a fully curved spoon.
Style 4. Shall be single-ended and 8-1/2 inches long. The distal blade shall be slightly curved.
