COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, HYSTERECTOMY, HEANEY, LARGE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-R-36960, which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a hysterectomy retractor suitable for use in surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. Shall be a hysterectomy retractor of the Heaney design used during surgical procedures.
Material. Material of the retractor shall be Class 4 corrosion resistant steel or Class 3 corrosion resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The retractor shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 50, for the Class 4 steel, and (HRB) B scale of 75 to 95 for the Class 3 steel, when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The retractor shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20231 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The retractors shall have mirror or satin finish and shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The retractors shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
