COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCISSORS, IRIS, CURVED, 4-7/8 INCH
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-S-36526, which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers surgical scissors suitable for use in the practice of eye surgery.
Salient characteristics:
General. The performance of the scissors shall be in accordance with ASTM F1079.
Material. Material of the scissors shall be Class 4 corrosion resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The scissors shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 50 to 55, when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The scissors shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20741 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The scissors shall have a mirror finish. The cutting edge shall be properly honed. The inside blades shall be ground to remove all surface imperfections, followed by polishing to produce a non-reflective finish.
Passivation. The scissors shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The scissors shall show>no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089.
