COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BUR, BONE, Tungsten Carbide, Side Cutting,
7.5 mm Cutting Length, Tapered, Medium Shank
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description Sheet as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-B-42017 and MIL-B-42017/8 which are cancelled.
The complete requirements for procuring Bur, bone shall consist of this document and the issue in effect of Commercial Item Description A-A-54165.
Salient Characteristics:
Style, design, dimensions. The bur shall be a side cutting, medium shank, surgical buffing type for use with a medium bur guard. The bur shall be of one-piece construction, fabricated of C2 grade tungsten carbide, hot isostatically pressed, with a grain size of 1 to 2 microns. Design and dimensions of the bur shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing Number 23480, Sheet 6.
Examination. The bur shall be examined at 7x magnification for bur defects not readily perceptible to the naked eye.
Tests. The bur shall not break when 4 pounds of force is applied transversely at the tip with the bur supported at, and to the rear of, the safeline.
Notes:
a. Intended use. The bone bur covered in this Commercial Item Description Sheet is intended for use in Medical War Readiness Assemblages and DoD Deployable Medical Systems.
