RETRACTOR, ORTHOPEDIC, HOHMANN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description
This Commercial Item Description covers an orthopedic retractor of the Hohmann design suitable for orthopedic procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The retractor shall have a tapered, backward curved distal tip and slightly curved handle. The handle shall have holes in the center portion for lightness.
Material. Material of the retractor shall be corrosion-resistant martensitic stainless steel Class 4, Type 420 in accordance with ASTM F899. After proper stress relieving, the Rockwell hardness shall be RC 44 to RC 50 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18.
Style, design and dimensions. The retractor shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing no. 24521 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The forceps shall have a mirror, satin or matte finish and shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The retractor shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089.
Identification marking and labeling. Forceps shall be legibly marked with the contractor’s name or trademark and the word “stainless”. Foreign manufactured forceps shall bear the name of the country of origin.
