COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CATHETER, CARDIOVASCULAR (Arterial Embolectomy)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-42041 (DM) which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a Fogarty cardiovascular catheter suitable for arterial embolectomy procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The catheter shall be a cardiovascular catheter of the Fogarty design with a soft, atraumatic flexible tip and an inflatable concentric balloon.
The catheters covered by this specification shall consist of the following syringe capacities and color code:

The balloon shall be securely affixed by epoxied sutures. As an alternate, a suture tie sleeve for suture tying support may be used. The proximal end shall have a gate valve and a female Luer lock hub in accordance with ANSI/HIMA MD70.1. The catheter may be supplied with a disposable 1cc syringe except for the 6 and 7 Fr sizes. The 3 Fr catheters may be supplied with a stylet if one is needed for stiffness. The catheter shall be furnished with a stylet which extends throughout the length of the catheter. Catheter shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing 22298. Stainless Steel sleeves are required for catheters having French sizes of 4, 6, and 7, and optional for French sizes 3 and 5. Styles are required for French sizes 4, 5, 6, and 7; and optional for French size 3.
