COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BLADE, ORTHOPEDIC CAST CUTTER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers an orthopedic cast cutter blade suitable for cutting surgical plaster casts.
Salient characteristics:
Material. Material of the blades shall be Class 4 corrosion resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The blades shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 48 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The blades shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23034 for style, design and dimensions. (See Note 1.)
Finish. The blades shall have a mirror, satin or matte finish.
Passivation. The blades shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The blades shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089.
Identification marking and labeling. The blades shall be legibly marked with the contractor’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless”. Foreign manufactured elevators shall bear the name of the country of origin.
