COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SAMPLING KIT, ARTERIAL BLOOD GAS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a kit suitable for the collection of arterial blood samples for the determination of blood gases.
Salient characteristics:
General. The kit shall contain the following items:
One 5 ml glass syringe with Luer lock
One gray rubber tip cap
One 1 ml ampule of sodium heparin (1000 USP units)
One 20 or 21 gage x 1-1/2 inch (3.81 cm) needle
One 22 gage x 1 inch (2.54 cm) needle
One 5-3/4 inch (14.6 cm) x 9 inch (22.9) resealable plastic bag
One 70% isopropanol impregnated prep pad
Two 2 inch (5.08 cm) by 2 inch (5.08 cm) gauze sponges
One rubber stopper
One 10% povidone iodine impregnated prep pad
Appropriate labels and instructions.
Materials. The needle shall be austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
The above components shall be contained in a sterile tray with sterile, (CSR) overwrap. Each tray shall be individually contained in a non-resealable tamperproof container. As an alternate the components shall be contained in a sterile tray with a sealed tyvek cover.
The kit shall comply with all applicable requirements of the Bureau of Medical Devices and Diagnostics. Medication shall comply with USP requirements.
