COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CANNULA, TRACHEOSTOMY, MODIFIED, JACKSON
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-36643A (1) which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers two types of tracheostomy cannulas of the modified Jackson design, with or without an endotracheal adapter suitable for insertion into the trachea.
Salient characteristics.
General. Tracheostomy cannula shall be furnished in the size and type designated for each specified National Stock Number (See Note on page 5).
Sizes (O.D. of Outer Tube)
2 – 0.236 inch
3 – 0.274 inch
4 – 0.314 inch
5 – 0.351 inch
6 – 0.393 inch
7 – 0.440 inch
8 – 0.474 inch
Type
I – Without tracheal tube adapter
II – With tracheal tube adapter
Material. The inner and outer tube neck plate, swivel lock plate, inner tube anchor plate, swivel lock and tube adapter shall be Class 3 corrosion resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899. The stylet and bearing washer shall be fabricated from other suitable materials.
Stylet (Obturator). The stylet shall be fabricated from half-hard tempered brass material. And shall be nickel or chromium plated.
Bearing washer. The washer shall be fabricated from non-toxic durable, non-metallic material capable of repeated steam sterilization.
