COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, SPINAL (Adson-Beckman)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a self-retaining retractor of the Adson-Beckman design suitable for use in orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures.
Salient characteristics.
General. The retractor shall have four 1 inch prongs and be approximately 12 inches long. The hinged arms shall be capable of 180 degree motion. The retractor shall have a ring-type ratchet and a ratchet release lever with finger guard to protect against glove punctures.
Material. Material of the retractor shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The retractor shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 47 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Style, design, and dimensions. The retractor shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24467 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The retractor shall have a mirror, satin, or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
