COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ELEVATOR, PERIOSTEAL (ADSON)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-E-37983 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a periosteal elevator, of the Adson design, curved and with a semi-sharp edge, suitable for use in surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The periosteal elevator shall be curved, semi-sharp, 6-3/4 inches long of the Adson design and used for elevating the periosteum from phalanges, carpals, ulna, and radius.
Material. The elevator shall be fabricated of Class 4 martensitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The elevator shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of 44 to 50 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The elevator shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23366 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The elevator shall have a mirror, satin, or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform non-directional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. The elevator shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The elevator shall show no evidence of corrosion when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089.
