AIRWAY, NASOPHARYGEAL (Argyle)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers an Argyle nasopharyngeal airway suitable for use in bedside bronchofiberoscopy, nasopharyngeal suction, or use as an airway.
Salient characteristics:
General. The airway shall be round, flexible, curved, clear, sterile, disposable, plastic and conform to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z79.3 for Anesthetic Equipment – Oropharyngeal and Nasopharyngeal Airways.
Material. The airway shall be fabricated from medical grade polyvinylchloride in accordance with ANSI Z79.3.
Dimensions. The airway shall be furnished in the following sizes and their respective inside and outside diameters:

Style and design. The “curved” airway shall be of uniform radius over the entire length of the tube conforming to human nasopharynx.
The exterior surfaces of the airway shall be smooth for an easy and non-grabbing insertion. The interior of the airway shall be siliconized for passage of a catheter. The distal tip shall be angled for routing into the trachea. As an alternate to a siliconized interior surface, this surface shall have a longitudinal serrations to facilitate passage of a catheter.
