COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
AIRWAY, PHARYNGEAL, RUBBER (Guedel)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-A-36163 which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a rubber pharyngeal airway of the Guedel type suitable for use in anesthesia procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The airway shall be a curved, clean, ready for use, reusable, rubber pharyngeal tube and shall conform to American Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard Z79.3 for Anesthetic Equipment-Oropharyngeal and Nasopharyngeal airways.
Material. The airway shall be fabricated from medical grade rubber in accordance with ANSI Z79.3. The insert shall be metal or nylon as specified.

Style, design, and dimensions. The airway shall be furnished in the following sizes:
Size 0 Infant
Size 2 Child
Size 3 Small Adult
Size 5 Large Adult
The airway shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) No. 20065.
Finish. The exterior and interior surfaces shall be smooth for an easy and non-grabbing insertion.
Toxicity and biocompatibility. Toxicity and biocompatibility shall be in accordance with ANSI Z79.3.
