RETRACTOR, ABDOMINAL, RICHARDSON
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers an abdominal retractor of the Richardson design for use in general operating procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Material. Material of the retractor shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The retractor shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of 40 to 50 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The retractor shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24458 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The retractor shall have a mirror, satin, or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform non-directional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. The retractor shall be properly passivated.
Identification marking and labeling. The retractor shall be legibly marked with the contractor’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless”. Retractors of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of origin.
