COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, KIDNEY PEDICLE, Guyon-Pean
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-F-37003(1) which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers one type of Guyon-Pean kidney pedicle forceps designed for crushing and grasping the kidney’s pedicle before severing and ligating the pedicle for kidney removal.
Salient characteristics:
General. Forceps shall have curved, serrated jaws and be of the Guyon-Pean design.
Material. The material shall be Class 4 corrosion resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Style, design and dimensions. Forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20586 for style, design and dimensions.
Hardness. Forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 38 to 46 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Finish. The finish of the forceps shall be mirror, satin or matte. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. Forceps shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. Forceps shall show no signs of corrosion or plating of copper when tested for corrosion resistance in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
