COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LANCET, FINGER BLEEDING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Federal Specification GG-L-00110A (DSA-DM) which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a disposable sterile lancet suitable for administering finger punctures to obtain blood for hematologic studies.
Salient characteristics:
General. The lancet shall be 1-1/4 to 1-3/4 inches long with width dimension providing sufficient surface and for gripping in use. The point shall be suitably sharpened to minimize trauma in use.
Material. The lancet shall be fabricated from Class 3 or 4 corrosion resisting steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899. The handle may be plastic.
Hardness. The lancet shall have a Rockwell Hardness B scale (HRB) of 70 to 110 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Sterility. The lancet or lancet point shall be sterile in accordance with the USP or AAMI requirements. Sterility assurance level shall be 0.000001. Lancet or lancet point shall be suitably protected to maintain sterility.
Workmanship. The lancet shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability. The lancet shall be free from burrs, deformity, sharp edges, (except the point), and foreign matter.
