COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, UTERINE, STRAIGHT, BRAUN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-F-36735 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a straight uterine forceps of the Braun design used in gynecological procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be straight uterine tenaculum forceps, 9-1/2 inches in length, of the Braun design, with sharp pointed jaws and suitable for use in gynecological procedures.
Material. The uterine forceps shall be fabricated of Class 4, Type 410 or 420, martensitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The uterine forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness of C40 to C45 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The uterine forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20587 for style, design and dimensions.
Performance. The uterine forceps shall be made to meet the applicable requirements for workmanship and performance in accordance with ASTM F1026.
Finish. The uterine forceps shall have a mirror finish.
Passivation. The uterine forceps shall be properly passivated.
Resistance to Corrosion. The uterine forceps shall not show evidence of corrosion when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089.
