COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CRUTCH, CANE TYPE, ADJUSTABLE, CHILD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-37277 (DSA-DM) which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers an adjustable child’s aluminum, cane type crutch suitable for use in ambulation.
Salient Characteristics:
Material. Crutch components material shall be furnished as shown on Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24320. Rubber and vinyl parts shall be black in color.
Construction. The crutch shall consist of a telescoping aluminum tube construction projecting plastic covered hand grip, and a C-shaped, arm support. Bottom of crutch shall be fitted with a removable rubber crutch tip. Starting above hand grip, tubing shall bend slightly to provide comfortable positioning of arm support which shall be attached by means of an anchor block to an adjusting post telescoping into the upper end of tubing. Adjusting post shall be adjustable to three different heights. The lower portion of the crutch shall also be adjustable in length, to eight positions. The crutch shall conform to Defense Personnel Support Center Drawing 24320. The telescoping crutch sections shall move freely and not bind when moved to all positions. The positioning buttons shall move easily and shall not bind in lower and upper crutch height adjustment. Crutch shall be provided assembled as shown on the drawing. Crutch shall have weight distribution and construction to permit hanging from a chair or table.
Finish. All exposed parts of the crutch shall have a smooth finish. Aluminum components shall be suitably anodized.
