COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCISSORS, CORNEAL, CASTROVIEJO
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-S-36723 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers two types of corneal scissors of the Castroviejo design suitable for use in special surgical procedures of the eye.
Salient characteristics:
General. The corneal scissors of the Castroviejo design shall be of the following types:
Type I Curved – Left
Type II – Curved – Right
Material. The corneal scissors shall be fabricated from Class 4, Type 420, martensitic corrosion resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The corneal scissors shall have a Rockwell Hardness of C50 to C55 and the screw shall have a Rockwell Hardness of C40 to C45 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The corneal scissors shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20246 for style, design and dimensions.
Passivation. The corneal scissors shall be properly passivated.
